Flash Mobs

So, I was all excited this year after I’d heard about Santacon. Basically, Santacon is an event that happens around Christmas time and is popular amongst the burner community. It’s a gathering of people (usually between 50 – 100) that dress up in cheap Santa outfits and run around town suprising people and generally causing mischief while singing dirty christmas songs. Most of the time there is a significant amount of alchohol involved and the mob usually frequents bars and shopping malls. It’s generally just a good excuse to “freak out the squares”.

Santacon is only one type of flash mob. There’s also Zombie Walks (my favorite), where you get 100 or so people to dress like zombies and shuffle around downtown.

Zombie walks have been known to stop traffic and “attack” public transit, etc… Quite often, flash mobs also include other events within like giant pillow fights at city hall or random parties on a subway train. Flash mobs tend to disperse almost as quickly as they appear.

Unfortunately though, I will be unable to attend this year’s Santacon due to my aunt’s major 50th birthday party bash. The party will be a tonne of fun, so I didn’t need to think twice about going. There’s always next year to stumble around town as a drunk and perverted Santa. Anybody else with me? Maybe we can dress up as bunnies and have Easter con! Finally, Congratulations to my friends Olaf and Wendy who got engaged last week while in Mexico. I’ve been asked to be the best man which is always exciting. I’ve already got a few cool ideas for what to do for the bachelor party. If you have any suggestions, feel free to leave a comment.

Hey. We’re doing an article in a South African youth Magazine on Flash Mobs. Would you possibly be interested in letting us use some of your photographs? Thanks so much
